Day 1. New Delhi, arrival
Transfer from the airport to the hotel. Then we meet in the hotel lobby in the afternoon, get motorcycles and go for dinner to taste local cuisine.
After dinner, if you wish, we can take a short walk around some of the sights of Delhi: India Gate, Presidential Palace.
Day 2. Delhi – Chandigarh, 250/320 km
We leave Delhi and begin our trip. We get used to motorcycles and chaotic Indian traffic. Our destination for today is the city Chandigarh, it is located on the border of two states - Punjab and Haryana, and has the status of the capital of each of them. This city was built from scratch in just 5 years.
Along the way, if you wish, we can make a short detour and stop in the town of Patiala to see the ancient Qila Mabarak fort. Or we can ride straight to Chandigarh to have time to walk around the city.
Day 3. Chandigarh – Manali, 290 km
Today we will ride to Manali, which is considered the entrance gate to the Himalayas.
Day 4. Manali, rest day (altitude 1950 m)
In Manali we’ll have a rest day, as we need to get used slowly to the altitude, so here we will have the first day of acclimatization. We’ll get acquainted with Tibetan architecture and cuisine.
Day 5. Manali – Kilong (altitude 3080 m) 70 km
From this day our route will run through mountainous terrain and gradually discover the beauty of the Himalayas. Along the way we will begin to try the legendary Masala tea, because in each place it is prepared according to its own unique recipe.
Today we will travel through the longest tunnel in India, located at an altitude of more than 3000 meters above sea level, its length is more than 9 km. Previously, in this place there was one of the most dangerous passes - Rohtang. Now, thanks to the tunnel, the route is shortened by 50 km.
We will arrive in Kilong around lunchtime, which is ideal for tasting the famous Tibetan momos in the small authentic cafes of this high mountain village.
Day 6. Kilong, rest day (altitude 3080 m)
Today we have our second acclimatization, so we will take a short walk to the Buddhist temple, enjoy the beautiful views along the way and plunge into the calm atmosphere of the Tibetan monks. We will visit the museum of the tribes of Lahol and Spiti, and go for tea in the village of Udaipur.
Day 7. Kilong – Sarchu (altitude 4300 m), 110 km
These 100 km will probably be the most picturesque serpentine road you have ever ridden. Today we are waiting for the first serious pass Baralacha La (4890 m). There will be unpaved areas in some places and an endless number of hairpins. The overnight stay in Sarchu will be in a rather interesting place - a tent camp at an altitude of 4300 m next to near the picturesque canyon.
Day 8. Sarchu – Leh (3500 m), 310 km
Today is the most difficult day. Our path will run through the beautiful and mysterious state of Ladakh, we ride all the day at altitudes of more than 4000 m. We cross two very high passes Lachunglang La (5079 m) and Taglang La (5328 m) and, if the weather permits, we will have a snack in the highest mountain café of India. Dirt serpentines and single-lane roads under the rocks will definitely impress everyone.
Along the way we will also make a stop at one of the most famous monasteries of Ladakh - Hemis Gompa.
Day 9. Lech (3500 m), rest day
A rest day after a hard road and time to to know the pearl of Tibet. Leh is the capital of the kingdom of Ladakh, a place where you can experience the authentic atmosphere of the ancient world. Here we will find the Leh Palace of the 17th century, a bustling city bazaar, and ancient Buddhist temples.
Day 10. Leh – Kargil, 230 km
Today we ride to Kargil, the second largest city in Ladakh after Leh. It is located very close to the Line of Control of Pakistan. An excellent asphalt road waits us and, of course, our favorite serpentines.
On the way, we will make a stop at Guradwara Pathar Sahib, which was founded in 1517, and will also ride along the “magnetic slide” and check whether in this place, if you turn off the ignition on the car, it will still go up on its own. And there will definitely be many photo stops in beautiful places.
Day 11. Kargil – Darcha, 360 km
Today mountains, gorges and masala tea are waiting us again. In 2024 a new road was opened from Padum (previously it was a bad quality dirt road), along which we will get to Darchi and go to the main road, where we will stop for the night.
Day 12. Darcha – Naggar, 120 km
Today we are riding to the city Naggar, where Nicholas Roerich lived, we will visit his house and get acquainted with the works of the great artist, learn the story of his life. Here he painted most of his paintings from the Himalayan series.
We will also visit Naggar Castle, which is a striking example of Himalayan architecture. Now It has been turned into a hotel, but we can still admire it.
Day 13. Naggar – Delhi, 495 km
Today is the final and the longest riding day, so we leave early and go to the capital without any delays to celebrate the end of our difficult, but so bright journey.
