This year we several times did Tula-Ryazan tour and below our advice what to see in this cities.
Let’s start with Tula. After riding for approx. 70-100 km from Moscow you can turn to Zaokskiy reserve and move further with secondary roads to Tula. In the city there are few main places of interest. First of all, its Yasnaya Polyana – a place where famous Russian writer Lev Tolstoy lived and died. Today it’s a museum and nice park with forest and apply garden to walk around. We strongly recommend this place, preferably with local guide. And please reread War and Peace if you haven’t done it in last 7-10 years.
Second worth visiting place is Tula weapon museum. It was built several year ago and located right in the center of the city. If you like guns, rifles and all other staff like that it’s a must visit place. Plus, inside there are nice interactive stands. Not far from the museum there is Tula Kremlin with good restaurant inside.
Lev Tolstoy family Estate, Weapons Museum and Tula Kremlin are main city places of interest we suggest to visit.
Next we move to Ryazan. There are several places you can stop by on the road from Tula to Ryazan. First place is forbidden coal mining facilities in the Uzlovaya region near Tula. Today they are mostly flooded and it’s a network of lakes with clear and blue water.
Second place is newly opened museum on Kulikovo Pole – place where in ancient times a great fight between Russian and Tatars armies took place. Today it’s an open-air museum, they arrange different shows, have exposition of old items, cafes and interactive entertainments. Last time we visited it we were lucky to see show dedicated to 637-year anniversary of the famous battle.
In the Ryazan city its nice old city center and tasty food. In this city we usually have a walk over the central street (Pochtovaya st) with local guide and dinner in very cool local restaurant (Chulan). Not far from Ryazan located small village where another Russian poet was born. A place where you can enjoy nature and peaceful atmosphere. Tourists usually don’t get here.
Hope that information will be helpful. Below you can see photos from our last trip to Tula and Ryazan. Please feel free to join us next year, there would be few more tours to that cities – https://rusmototravel.com/tours/three-day-tour-tula-and-ryazan-small-golden-ring-tour
