Route: where we would go

Moscow – Derbovezh – Pechory – Sortavala – Petrozavodsk – Pudozh – Vologda – Moscow

Day 1. Moscow – Derbovezh, 470 km

Our first stop in the morning is in Savvino-Storozhevskiy monastery in Zvenigorod. If you’re not afraid, you can swim in icy water. Have local pastry and drink local kvas in there and then take secondary roads to Rzhev via Ruza. If the group is willing, we can take some unpaved roads. In Rzhev he have lunch and set off to the hotel in Derbovezh.

Day 2. Derbovezh – Pechory, 400 km

We go via Velikie Luki to Pushkinskie Gory – yes, this place belonged to Alexander Pushkin. Next we go to Pskov and take a look at the Kremlin (yet another one) and have a lunch. In the evening we have guided tour in Uspenskiy monastery.

Day 4. Pechory – Sortavala, 620 km

We ride to Karelia, passing along the Chudskoye lake. We promise you a fascinating story here. Also we’ll have some time in Rerikh’s residence and some small towns. Next we skip Saint Pete (join our other tours, if you want to discover the Northern capital of Russia) and go via Kronshtadt to Sortavala. Here we will see Ruskeala canyon.

Day 5. Sortavala

A guided tour to Valaam island, which is well-known by its monastery, one of the oldest in Russia. It was built in XV century. We can rent a car and drive around to see even more.

Day 5. Sortavala – Petrozavodsk, 250 km

We go to Karelia’s capital, the city of Petrozavodsk. On the way we visit Martsialnye vody, a resort built by Peter the Great in the eighteenth century. Here we drink water from three healing springs and take a look at the Saint Peter’s church (built in 1721). In the evening we have a dinner and a brief walking tour.

Day 6. Petrozavodsk

Today we visit Kizhi, a unique museum under the sky, an island and wooden buildings without any single nail in them.

Day 7. Petrozavodsk – Pudozh, 350 km

But first Medvezhjegorsk, the city of bears. It’s situated in the north-western part of Karelia on the rivers Kumsa and Vichka. Then we go via Pudozh’ part of Onega lake and have amazing views while riding. We stay for the night in a small small wooden town called Pudozh.

Day 8. Pudozh – Vologda, 430 km

We ride through small amazing villages of Russian North. Here we will also take a chance to see historical and touristic places of Vologda area. A national part Russian North is on our way, and we’ll definitely visit Belozerskiy museum. We sleep tonight in Vologda, the cultural capital of the northern part of Russia, famous for its wooden architecture and lace craft, as well as icons.

Day 9. Vologda – Moscow, 470 km

On our way back to Moscow we visit Yaroslavl for a lunch and a walk, take a look at Troitse-Sergieva Lavra in Sergiev Posad. By the evening we’ll be in Moscow.
