Route: where we would go

Moscow – Vologda – Velsk – Arkhangelsk – Kargopol – Pudozh – Medvezhjegorsk – Petrozadovdsk – Velikiy Novgorod – Valday - Moscow

Day 1. Moscow – Rybinsk, 320 km

We go to the old Russian city via small towns and villages: Sergiev Posad, Kalyazin, Myshkin, Uglich. Rybinsk was considered a capital of Volga’s burlacks (yes, we’ll tell the story about that) and is worth seeing and exploring by foot.

Day 2. Rybinsk – Velsk, 480 km

Here we have some rest before going to Arkhangelsk. That doesn’t mean we will be bored: we go to Spas-Preobrazhenskiy Cathedral, Uspenskaya Church, Baba Lida’s museum representing the old-times routines, interior and stuff, and have a cup of hot tea with home-made pastry.

Day 3. Velsk – Arkhangelsk, 510 km

We ride the best part of the day, and then relax in Arkhangelsk and have a walk on the main pedestrian street of the city.

Day 4. Arkhangelsk

We go to the open museum called Malye Korely. This is probably the only place where you can see the real and untouched old North. It’s a huge place, 140 Ha, so we’ll try our best to see the most. In the evening we have one more walk in Arkhangelsk.

Day 5. Arkhangelsk – Kargopol, 480 km

Only a few people live here, and barely a  few tourists visit here. So you’ll have an amazing chance to see the “wild” Russia and be proud of it afterwards. We’ll go to the Cathedral and churches, visit Toy museum and workshop.

Day 5. Kargopol – Petrozavodsk, 510 km

Petrozavodsk is the capital of Karelia republic. We’ll take a look around, walk the embankment and try local Karelian food in Gornitsa restaurant.

Day 6. Kizhi

This is a unique museum under the sky, an island and wooden buildings without any single nail in them. If we’re lucky, we’ll have a walking tour with the best guide, his name’s Gennadiy.

Day 7. Petrozavodsk – Valday, 640 km

Our last night’s stop is at Eco-Hotel Valday, where they have amazing skies, Russian bath and great atmosphere. We’ll have a chance to share our feelings and emotions from the tour, and discuss further plans.

Day 8. Valday – Moscow, 400 km

There are a couple of ways to come back to Moscow. We’ll choose the one that would suit our current mood. If we have time, we’ll visit a couple more places of interest.
