Bogdo mountain

Bogdo mountain is located in Astrakhan region, between Volgograd and Astrakhan on the shores of the Baskunchak lake. Mountain is a part of Bodgo-Baskunchak national park (entrance ticket 150 rub) with total area of 18 thousand ha. Buddhists consider mountain to be holy site and tire straps on the top.

We really enjoyed Bodgo, recommend you visiting it and want give some hints and facts.

First of all, the mountain itself looks very unusual. With green and red slopes it seems like you on Mars. Second, from the top you will see beautiful view of the Baskunchak lake. Endless steppes, blue sky and salted mirror like surface of the lake. What a beauty. Next, when steppes winds get in the caves they make special sound and it seems like mountain is singing. Last, but not least – every year the mountain is growing by 1 mm. Actually it’s a dome of the underground salt deposits, located with the Baskunchak lake

Several useful tips from us:
1) Take with you tea, water, some snack. On the top of the mountain you can have amazing tea-party
2) From the Astrakhan road to Low Baskunchak village there is mostly good quality asphalt. From village to the mountain its 12 km segment of dirt road with some sand and tracks. Be careful is you have passenger and loaded trunks
3) Don’t try to reach Bodgo in rainy weather on road tires
4) If you go to Astrakhan after Bodgo you can go directly to the highway through the steppes, it will be 50 km instead of 120 is you go back by asphalt roads. But there is high probability that you can miss right road and it will be just the same route in terms of time
5) Best time to visit Bodgo is April and May
